When owner Pat Coyne left school and returned to the island to farm in the 1980s, times were hard but he saw the potential to develop self- catering accommodation on Inishbofin. His love of the island and desire to secure a future for his own family were the incentive for him to develop his tourism business.
Then next challenge was to open the Dolphin Restaurant in 2000 and then go on to plan and even physically build the Dolphin Hotel himself. It opened in 2006. There’s no stopping this man!
Pat still loves farming and uses his own Inishbofin born and reared lamb in the Dolphin Hotel restaurant.
He has been involved with the Inishbofin Development Company and local community affairs for the past 20 years. He is proud of his island heritage and enjoys welcoming guests to this unique part of the west of Ireland. He believes that sustainable tourism is vital to the future of the island community.
Pat is also involved in charity fundraising and through the Dolphin Hotel he runs the Inishbofin Half Marathon & 10K, Inishbofin Swim and Bike2Bofin events to raise vital funds for Down Syndrome Galway. These events have raised a staggering €200,000 to date.
